The government has decided to introduce the online system for approving building plans in local government areas. According to this, the Urban Development and Housing Minister Mr. Prasanna Ranatunga said that this system will be introduced in all 337 local government institutions across the island. He also mentions that it is expected to be implemented in the next two months.
The Minister stated this during a discussion between the heads of Gampaha District Local Government Institutions and Minister Prasanna Ranatunga yesterday (29th) at the Urban Development and Housing Ministry Auditorium in Setsiripaye, Battaramulla. This discussion was held with the aim of solving the problems that have arisen at the local government level in approving the plans. The heads of the local government bodies mentioned that there are various delays in getting the plans of the local government bodies approved by the Urban Development Authority. They pointed out that some officials are working to bring the files to their homes, and that the related officials do not participate in the planning approval committee of the local authorities. The minister advised the urban development authorities to take immediate action against such officers. It was also decided to make the participation of Urban Development Authority officials mandatory in the planning committee.
When obtaining approval for the construction of buildings, the approval for land less than 9000 square feet is assigned to the concerned local government, and if the land is more than 9000 square feet or the building is more than 05 wings, the Urban Development Authority is responsible for giving approval.
