We are pleased to announce the opportunity for a HV Substation Electricians / Supervisors in Ireland. The successful candidate will be an experienced Electrical Engineer, working as the person in charge of work with both practical and supervising skills. They will be carrying out the full range of duties associated with Substation Inspections of substation voltages up to 110kV.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Responsible for the planning, organization, coordination, evaluation and supervision of employees assigned to the operation, maintenance and construction of Electric distribution systems, customer Electric services, electric generation plant facilities, buildings and grounds or utility support areas.
- Inspection & Non-Intrusive Diagnostic Testing of all plant and apparatus associated with the HV and MV Distribution network.
- Fault location and repair of minor plant defects associated with the HV and MV Distribution network.
- Demonstrate a strong safety culture.
- Take Oil Samples, if required for diagnostic testing from HV Plant.
- Use of appropriate Hand Held IT equipment.
- Immediate supervision of Maintenance/Project/Sub Contract staff within their working party.
- Assist team with other maintenance and project-based work.
- To be prepared to assist other sections as and when required e.g. organisational changes, system emergencies etc as determined by your skills, knowledge and experience.
- Cleaning of all substation internals, including plant and apparatus associated with the HV and MV Distribution network under UKPN Services’ guardianship.
- Cleaning includes dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning internal windows, etc.
- Complete the additional site visits to provide the requirements of the ESQC Regulations.
- HV and MV meter reading.
- Undertake touch-up re-decoration tasks within substations as directed.
Nature and Scope:
- The person undertaking this role will play a vital role in the safe and timely completion of the Inspection & Maintenance Programme for the Services region.
- Must be available to work scheduled overtime and be able to respond to emergency outages and customer outages as they occur.
- This position will also be in an on-call rotation with other Substation Operation Supervisors across the state.
Skill and Educational Requirements:
- Good level of English language, both verbal and written.
- BSc in Electrical Background
- Flexibility to work alone and in a team environment.
- Ability to problem solve in a practical way.
- Able to work under pressure.
- A good understanding of Health & Safety and Environmental Legislation.
- Be computer literate to undertake data input onto the hand held devices.
- Knowledge of chemicals and other supplies.
- Familiarity with material Safety Data Sheets.
- Familiarity with ‘sharps’ management.
- Any company specific training required will be provided to the suitable candidate.
Person Skills:
Strong safety focus required.
- Must be able to demonstrate that they are highly motivated.
- Willing to work as part of a team or alone.
- Enthusiasm to learn and develop new techniques.
